Slimline Cards

Today I thought I would share the different ways you can make slimline cards and some examples of what I have created over the past few months. I LOVE this style of card! The typical size of a slimline card is 3.5 x 8.5. So, this means it will fit properly in a #10 business-size envelope, which is 4 1/8″ x 9 1/2″.

I made my first slimline card back in Oct 2019, and it was a holiday-themed card. I enjoyed making it, and if you want, you can check out the card and material used in the blog post here. For this card, I used my Cricut Explore to make the frame and proceeded from there. Fast forward to now, and so many companies have come out with slimline dies!

The two set of dies I have used so many times since then is from Trinity Stamps. One is the Stitched Card Panels and Windows, and the other is the Frame and Fold Die set. I LOVE these dies! I have used them so much for my slimline cards. Trinity stamps also sells a Scenic Border Die set. These are a perfect complement to the other two sets, and they allow you to make grassy hills, clouds, sandhills, and snowdrifts. Here are some examples of cards I’ve made using these dies:

As you can see, these dies are SO versatile! You can orient your card vertical or horizontal depending on what images you have and what you prefer. The windows are perfect for framing out sections of the card. With the frame die, you can stack the frames together and create a shaker card.

In addition to the dies from Trinity Stamps, I recently just added the Mama Elephant Slim Card Basics – Creative Cuts to my collection. I love the scalloped edge! This set also comes with a hill and cloud dies as well that fit across the entire length of the slimline card. It also has three speech bubbles and three windows. The main image of this blog post (above) is the card I recently made using these dies. I can’t wait to make more cards with them!

While all these dies are nice to have and create beautiful stitching around the edge, you don’t need them to make a slimline card. Especially if you are on a budget as these can become very pricey. Just cut down your cardstock to the size you prefer and go from there! If you own an electronic machine like the Cricut or Silhouette, you can design one yourself, which is what I had done for the very first card I made. The only thing you won’t be able to do is to create a stitched line, which is perfectly ok!

I hope you give this style of card a try! They are so much fun to work with and give you a lot of space to arrange your images. Check out my Instagram account to see what products I used for the examples above. I try to list the stamps and sentiments I use when I post pictures to my Instagram feed. As always, you can contact me if you want to know any other details!

I would love to see what slimline cards you have made and what are some of your favorite dies!

Thanks for stopping by! – Mona
